Cichlids are by far the most popular family of tropical fish with a huge variety of species spanning the globe. Ranging from South America to East Africa cichlids are egglayers exercising parental care over the eggs through birth and afterwards. Some popular species are mouthbrooders holding the eggs in their mouths until they hatch and the fry as well until large enough to release in safety.
